Job description

Kopar Administration Ltd. is seeking a Life Skills Coach to support the delivery of a new service focused on providing life skills and individualized support to individuals in the Quesnel area. This is a new service, and the successful candidate must be comfortable working in an evolving program environment where practices, priorities, and procedures may change as the service develops.

The Life Skills Coach works directly with individuals experiencing multiple barriers to employment, including mental health challenges, substance use, homelessness, and long‑term unemployment. Service delivery is outreach‑focused and community‑oriented, and relies on strong collaboration with internal staff and external partners. You will be part of a 3 person Team, working with direction from 2 partner organizations, of which Kopar is the Prime contractor.

Participant Support & Coaching:

  • Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group life skills coaching
  • Support development of foundational life and employability skills, including communication, time management, budgeting, workplace expectations, and self‑advocacy
  • Assist participants with goal setting and individualized action plans
  • Support participants through non‑linear progress, setbacks, and re‑engagement

Teamwork & Collaboration:

  • Work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Demonstrate flexibility in response to changing dynamics, evolving service models, and new directives
  • Work closely with Kopar colleagues as well as staff from partner organizations and outreach support services
  • Participate in team meetings, service planning, and continuous improvement activities

Outreach & Community Engagement:

  • Deliver services in community settings and through outreach across Quesnel and surrounding areas
  • Build strong, respectful relationships with participants and community partners
  • Use a good working knowledge of local services and supports to assist participants effectively
  • Travel within the community as required to meet participants where they feel most comfortable engaging in services

Navigation & Referrals:

  • Provide supported navigation to housing, health, mental health, substance‑use, cultural, employment, training, and community supports
  • Coordinate warm referrals and follow‑up to support successful service connections
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with community service providers

Program Documentation & Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate and timely participant documentation and service records
  • Complete data entry into Kopar’s in‑house developed database, along with other required systems
  • Contribute to reporting and quality‑assurance processes

Professional Practice:

  • Apply trauma‑informed, culturally safe, and person‑centred approaches
  • Maintain confidentiality, professional boundaries, and ethical standards
  • Engage in supervision, training, and ongoing professional development

Required:
  • Minimum 2–3 years’ experience supporting individuals with barriers to employment (e.g., mental health, substance use, homelessness, justice involvement, disability, or related)
  • Strong computer skills, including: Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPointAccurate and timely data entryOutlook email and schedulingMicrosoft Teams for communication and collaborationAbility to learn and work within an in‑house developed database
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a new and changing service environment including possible extra hours work for special events and such
  • Good working knowledge of services and supports available in Quesnel
  • Strong communication and relationship‑building skills
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license and access to a reliable personal vehicle (required for outreach and community engagement)
  • Criminal Record Check (required upon hire)

Assets

  • Experience in employment services or community‑based programming
  • Training in trauma‑informed practice, mental health first aid, harm reduction, or cultural safety
  • Experience working collaboratively with Indigenous organizations or community partners
  • Lived or living experience relevant to the client population (considered an asset)
