Job Summary
The Manager, Engineering is responsible for the oversight of inspection and maintenance of tracks, roadbed, and right way. The role ensures maintenance and inspections are in accordance with the sound engineering practices and approved railway standards, specifications, procedures, budget and CN’s operating plan.
Main Responsibilities
Oversee Day-to-Day Territory Operations
- Lead the day-to-day operation on the territory
- Manage the maintenance, construction, and zone workforce
- Oversee schedules and budgets through completion
- Develop business cases for capitalization of zone basic capital
- Ensure track inspections and repairs are completed meeting CN track standards
- Analyze and interpret track geometry and rail flaw detection reports to identify conditions requiring action to meet Engineering Track Standards (ETS)

Working Conditions
The role is performed in a combination of office and outdoor environment in various types of weather conditions with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday. The role requires being available on-call 24 / 7 to respond to critical incidences. Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure and stress. The role requires frequent travel (up to 75%) across the territory and may require stays away from home.
