Description :
North America Battery Test Lab is seeking an Automation Engineer to develop test scripts to execute various development and validation tests for EV battery packs. The successful candidate has an opportunity to contribute to a world-class battery lab from the launch stage all the way to the full operation.
Initially the role will be focused on training, documentation and launch of the lab; will be required to complete all needed training and follow all lab safety processes and procedures.
The Automation Engineer will be responsible developing and validating initial test scripts with assistance from equipment supplier and inputs from Company internal stakeholders. The candidate will work with battery pack test engineers on the commissioning of the new battery lab.
After the launch of the lab, the role responsibilities would shift to a software support role and involve the creation and maintenance of all testing scripts. The Automation Engineer will ensure all test scripts meet safety requirements and functional requirements from requestors and test procedures. The successful candidate will maintain an open line of communication with all test requestors to stay current with various testing needs. The role will provide support at testbeds as needed to ensure proper execution of test scripts; identify and troubleshoot issues during test process.
Responsibilities include, but not limited to,
In lab launch stage :
Complete required training; follow safety requirements
Proficient in test scripting, training will be provided
Develop and validate initial test scripts with assistance from equipment supplier and inputs from Company internal stakeholders
Ensure software and IT support needs are addressed during installation of equipment and set up of the lab
Support the commissioning of equipment
Lab in full operation :
Create, peer view, validate, release, and maintain test scripts
Ensure all test scripts comply with safety requirements, and highest possible quality
Proactively work to resolve software and test script issues
Support test engineers on test project meetings as needed
Support root cause analysis and resolution of issues found during testing
Employ common software processes and implement best practices in all test scripts
Support on test data processing when needed
Support initiatives to optimize lab operation efficiency and cost, by analyzing, modeling, and simulation
Ensure all training requirements are kept up to date
Escalate issues to management as needed
- Requirements :
Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, or related engineering
Minimum 3 years of experience in scripting for testing, automation, or similar applications
Proficient in programming languages, such as Python
Ability to work within a group on large scale software activities
Knowledge of CAN communication and CAN networking
Excellent documentation skills to write clear, concise, and accurate documents
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills; attention to detail
Excellent time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines
Legally eligible to work in Canada
Preferred Requirements :
Master of Science in Computer Science, or related engineering
Experience with AVL PUMA
Experience with engineering tools such as Vector Canalyzer, and ETAS-INCA
Knowledge of Lithium-ion battery and characterization; Experience with battery pack testing or other relevant components / systems testing
Stay current with new technologies in the test automation and data management field
