Location : Fort McMurray, AB Type : Full-time Company : Wood Buffalo Environmental Association (WBEA) Description : Executive Director The Wood Buffalo Environmental Association (WBEA) is a multi-stakeholder, non-profit that monitors air quality and deposition in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. For more than twenty-five years, we’ve served as our region’s air quality reporter and are committed to reporting accurate and timely high-quality data from our monitoring programs. The Role The Executive Director is responsible for the successful management of the WBEA, aligning the growth and execution of operations with the strategic direction of the Board. Position Responsibilities Operational Management & Leadership : Oversee daily operations, ensuring effective resource planning and support for over 40 employees. Mentor and develop staff, encouraging career growth and fostering a collaborative environment. Community & Stakeholder Relations : Cultivate relationships with WBEA’s member organizations, promote WBEA’s mission, and represent the organization at stakeholder meetings. Financial Management : Manage the organization’s financial health, overseeing a budget of approximately $14 million annually. Human Resources & Team Development : Lead HR functions, maintain a positive work culture, and mentor leadership skills within the team. Risk Management & Compliance : Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and oversee WBEA’s Human Resources and Safety Programs. General Members & Governance Committee Support : Provide updates on business plan progress and support the Board in policy development. Qualifications Experience : 15+ years in progressively senior roles, including 5+ years in leadership Expertise in human resources, budgeting, and safety Proven success with boards and funding partners Knowledge of corporate governance and strategic planning Experience in environmental science is an asset Skills & Attributes : Transparent leadership with strong ethics Clear vision and support for innovation Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities High emotional intelligence and conflict resolution skills Ability to manage finances and create annual work plans Strong stakeholder relationship management Education : Post-secondary education in a relevant field is an asset Schedule The work week is 40 hours per week from Monday to Friday. Employment Status Full-time, permanent. Work Location This is a local position in Fort McMurray, Alberta.
